About me
Experience and Standard Care
Hello, I am Maria Claudia Aguiar, graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2005. During medical school, I was already interested in learning more and becoming a part of the world of childbirth and women’s health. To continue my training, I completed a residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at UFRJ as well. I was then approved by the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, earning the title of Specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
I have two children born through natural childbirth, experiences that were transformative in my professional life. Since then, I became interested in the physiology of labor and the process of humanization, undergoing training in Spinning Babies, supporting planned breech births, and the Alinhar method.
Currently, I also work as an obstetrician at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where I assist in the training of new specialists in Obstetrics.

My journey in obstetrics began in a period when practices such as the Kristeller maneuver, early admissions, patients being confined to bed during labor with restrictions on eating or drinking, and episiotomies were common.
This model of obstetrics was developed during a dark period in the field, when there was a medicalization of childbirth. It was a time when it was believed that pregnant women played a minor role in childbirth, and obstetricians were seen as the main protagonists of the process.
Over the years, I sought knowledge through scientific evidence about the physiology of labor. I have learned how labor can be a complex and perfect process that should be respected, not feared.
I work with my passion, which is to accompany pregnant women during this unique moment in their lives, respecting the physiology of childbirth and the autonomy of the pregnant person.
